1969 FIAT 124 Coupe

69 124 As Bought

We received this car on consignment.  John and Jeff both fell in love with it, and John ended up buying it from the consignor.

It’s far from perfect, and when bought was a non-runner.   It took quite a bit of coaxing but with a new carburetor we were able to bring it back to life.

The care was FILTHY inside and out, having sat outside for years.  Jeff spent a couple hours with a rag and water and a vacuum cleaner to get the worst of the dust cleaned up.  The interior was fairly dry but the seats hadn’t cracked.

The prior owner was a FIAT nut himself and had owed a couple of 128s and 124s.  Though we could tell the car was not stock, after some sleuthing Jeff learned that the car had a PBS head and the bigger 1.6l motor.   It also had an aftermarket exhaust that was pretty open.  Once we got the car running it was loud and proud.  It still has a long way to go, particularly to repair significant rust around the front and rear windscreens and along the body behind the rear bumper.   But for now we are just enjoying it.

Since purchasing it, John has put in a new carburetor, a new muffler, new braided steel brake lines, new brakes and some new suspension rubber.  The car stops, handles and drives quite well.
